News: “Wind Power Grew 39% Last Year”

by Elizabeth Barrette on January 31, 2010

Woohoo!  Wind power made prodigious gains last year.  If this keeps up, we’ll start putting a big dent in our fossil fuel dependence and our greenhouse emissions.

Wind Power Grew 39 Percent Last Year

The country is close to the point where 2 percent of its electricity will come from wind turbines – up from virtually nothing a few years ago.

Its all about incentives.  Between the government offering tax break and subsidies to the wind industry, and oil and natural gas becoming relatively more expensive, wind and solar are becoming the more economical decision, plain and simple.  This is a good thing, since as more money rolls into the renewable energy industry, the companies can spend more on R&D and eventually these renewable energy sources will be the smart economic more regardless of oil prices and tax advantages.
