Water Pollution

by Elizabeth Barrette on November 5, 2009

Recently I received an alert from Environment Illinois regarding the amount of toxins in Illinois rivers and across America.  Remember that we need water to live and to grow crops; the supply of fresh water is limited and we need to be very careful with it.

Illinois River or toxic dump?

The Illinois River is one of America’s biggest dumps for toxic chemicals, according to 2007 federal figures.

“The Illinois River ranked 11th in the country for most toxins released,” Max Muller of Environment Illinois said Wednesday.

Perhaps more importantly, those federal figures only account for a fraction of the total.

Also worth reading is the “Wasting Our Waters” report on violations of the Clean Water Act and what could be done to improve water quality.
