Daffodils are among the bulbs customarily planted in the fall for spring flowers. The genus Narcissus includes daffodils, jonquils, narcissi, and paperwhites - these are essentially variations of the same kind of flower, distinguished by differences in leaf shape, flowering habit, etc. The term “daffodil” is the broadest name for flowers in this genus. Bulbs should be planted in early fall (September-October) in cold regions, to allow time for roots to develop; in warmer regions they may be planted in late fall or early winter (November-December).
